Παράταση Υποβολής μέχρι 12η Ιανουαρίου

Λόγω των εορτών αποφασίσαμε να παρατείνουμε την προθεσμία υποβολής φωτογραφιών για τον Δεκέμβριο μέχρι τις 12 Ιανουαρίου, έτσι ώστε όσοι λείψουν το διάστημα των εορτών να μπορέσουν να τις υποβάλλουν αργότερα.

Επίσης ξαναπροσκαλούμε τον κόσμο να πει την γνώμη του για τον διαγωνισμό στην σχετική συζήτηση που έχει ήδη ξεκινήσει στο Forum, με στόχο να αντλήσουμε ιδέες που θα κάνουν τον διαγωνισμό να γίνει περισσότερο ελκυστικός και ανταγωνιστικός. Forum discussion

Extended submission deadline until Januray 12th

Due to the holidays we decided to move the submission date for December photos to January 12th, so that people who are away can send them in later. 

We would also like to invite people again to give their opinion in our forum thread, in order to gather ideas to make our Photo of the Month competition more... competitive! Forum discussion

Τον προηγούμενο μήνα ήταν τρίτος τώρα κερδίζει την πρώτη θέση : Συγχαρητήρια στον Χρήστο Βλάχο για την υπέροχη φωτογραφία μιας Κηστικόλης (Cisticola juncidis) !
Last month 3rd, this month he is the winner: congratulations to Chris Vlachos to for his outstanding shot of a Zitting Cisticola (also called Sreaked Fantail Warbler)!

Ever since this competitions have started four month ago, Nikos Fokas' photos have been voted among the first 3 every month, and this month is no exception. Our congratulations to Nikos for his fascinating black-and white photograph of Starlings!

Μετά από τέσσερις μήνες διαγωνισμούς ήρθε η κατάλληλη στιγμή να κάνουμε μια ανασκόπηση & να σκεφτούμε πώς & με τι αλλαγές μπορούμε να βελτιώσουμε τον διαγωνισμό. Εχουν γίνει ήδη αρκετές προτάσεις & πάνω σε αυτές μπορεί να ανοίξει μια συζήτηση με στόχο να διευκολύνουμε & να κάνουμε πιό ελκυστικό τον διαγωνισμό. Για αυτό τον λόγο δημιουργήσαμε μια νέα ενότητα στο Greek Nature Photography Forum όπου θα μπορούν ελεύθερα να συζητηθούν προτάσεις. Προφανώς δεν θα είναι δυνατόν να υιοθετηθούν όλες οι προτάσεις & εμείς τελικά θα αποφασίσουμε ποιές από αυτές μπορούμε να εφαρμόσουμε, ωστόσο η συμβολή & η γνώμη σας είναι πολύτιμη & αναγκαία. After having now completed 4 monthly competitions, we think that is time to let a a few reflections take place, and think about what could be changed and improved in regard to the Photo of the  Month. Several proposals have been made already by various people, and we think that they should be discussed in order to facilitate things and make them more appealing to everybody. Therefore we opened a thread in the Greek Nature Photography Forum, where proposals can be made and discussed freely. Of course we won't be able to apply all of the proposals to the competitions, and we will reserve the right to make the final decisions, but nevertheless we are looking forward to your opinion and feedback. You can write in english or in greek, both is fine. It is your opportunity to talk now...! Forum discussion


Again we want to send a big thank you to all the participants, winners or not, and hope to see their next series of photos again by the end of December. In January there will be an additional voting in order to elect the Photo of the Year 2011.

Φωτογραφία του μήνα: Η ψηφοφορία για τις φωτογραφίες του Νοεμβρίου ξεκίνησε.

Παρ 'όλο που ο καιρός δεν ήταν πάντα σύμμαχος τον μήνα που πέρασε, λάβαμε και
πάλι πολλές καταπληκτικές φωτογραφίες από όλους όσους συμμετείχατε. Με
είκοσι συμμετέχοντες και 68 φωτογραφίες είμαστε περίπου στο ίδιο επίπεδο με
τον προηγούμενο μήνα, συν ωστόσο το πολύ ευχάριστο γεγονός της πρώτης
συμμετοχής τριών φωτογράφων! Καθώς τελειώνει το φθινόπωρο, πολύ λογικά
υπάρχουν λιγότερα έντομα, θηλαστικά και ερπετά σε αντίθεση με την πληθώρα των
μικρόπουλων που κατέβηκαν νοτιότερα για να ξεχειμωνιάσουν και έτσι είναι από
τα πιο δημοφιλή φωτογραφικά θέματα. Η ποιότητα των φωτογραφιών είναι & πάλι
εξαιρετική οπότε αξίζει & πάλι ένα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ σε όλους τους
συμμετέχοντες !

Η ψηφοφορία εκτάκτως αυτή την φορά θα κρατήσει 9 μέρες καθώς θα λείπω σε
ταξίδι μέχρι τις 12 Δεκεμβρίου.

Η ψηφοφορία ξεκίνησε παρακάτω. Θυμηθείτε ότι ψηφίζουμε τις καλύτερες 5
φωτογραφίες, (και όχι τις φωτογραφίες των καλύτερών μας φίλων), δίνοντας 5
πόντους για την πρώτη επιλογή και 1 πόντο για τη πέμπτη.

Η ψηφοφορία επιτρέπεται για όλα τα μέλη της ΕΟΕ (HOS), του Greek Nature

Photo of the Month: Voting for November is now open

The weather wasn't always playing along this November, but despite that we recieved again a great number of excellent photos from all of you who have participated. With 20 participants and 68 photos we are around the same level as last month, but this time we are happy to welcome 3 new photographers! Due to the season, there are fewer insects, mamals, and reptiles now, while the small birds are very popular these days. Nevertheless the quality of the photos has remained very high, so again a big thank you from us to all of the participants!

The votintg period will last exceptionally 9 days this time, since I'll be away on a trip until december 12.

The voting sheet is now available here below: please remember to vote for the best 5 photos only, (instead of voting for your best friends photos), giving 5 points to your first choice, and 1 point to your fifth best choice.

Voting is allowed for all members of the EOE (HOS), the Greek Nature Photography Forum, or for people who have participated in at least one Photo of the Month competition (can be the current one).

Λιγότερες ανακοινώσεις για τον διαγωνισμό φωτογραφίας του μήνα

Φτάνοντας σταδιακά στο τέλος & του τέταρτου διαγωνισμού "Φωτογραφίας του Μήνα", μπορούμε να υποθέσουμε ότι η διαδικασία έχει γίνει πλέον ρουτίνα & δεν χρειάζεται να ανακοινώνουμε συνεχώς τις καταληκτικές ημερομηνίες.

Οι περισσότεροι συμμετέχοντες γνωρίζουν λογικά πιά μέχρι πότε μπορούν να παίρνουν & μέχρι πότε να στέλνουν φωτογραφίες. Οπότε στο μέλλον θα ανακοινώνουμε μονάχα την έναρξη της ψηφοφορίας & μετά από οκτώ μέρες τους νικητές. Ωστόσο αν διαπιστώσουμε ότι οι συμμετοχές είναι λίγες θα στείλουμε υπενθυμίσεις στο FB ή αλλού. Οπότε ρίχνετε πότε πότε καμιά ματιά στο blog για να ενημερώνεστε για τα τελευταία νέα μας. Επίσης μπορείτε να χρησιμοποιήσετε την αυτόματη κοινοποίηση στο mail σας στην δεξιά στήλη του blog.

Ιδού λοιπόν & πάλι οι απαραίτητες ημερομηνίες για την συμμετοχή σας :

- Φωτογραφίες μπορείτε να παίρνετε από την πρώτη μέχρι την τελευταία μέρα του μήνα.

Fewer Announcements for the Photo of the Month

We are now soon arriving at the end of the 4th Photo of the Month competition, and think that it has become sufficiently a "routine" procedure, so that we can stop announcing every deadline every time. Most of the people that have participated so far, should know by now until when they can take the photos and send them in. In the future we will therefore only announce the opening of the voting sheet, and eight days later announce the winners. If we see that the participation is low, we might of course still put a reminder on FB and elsewhere. So please check our blog every once in a while, in order to see our latest news. Also, feel free to use the automatic e-mail notification on the right side of the blog.

Here are again the key dates that you should keep in mind in order to participate:

- Photos can be taken from the first until the last day of every month
- Photos can be submitted until the 3rd day of the following month
- The voting sheet will be available from the 4th day of the following month, for one week
- One or two days after the end of the voting, the winners will be announced

The e-mail address for subitting photos can be found permanently on the right side of the blog.

Also we want to encourage very much new photographers to participate, so please do not hesitate to do some advertising for our monthly competition. Thanks in advance for that!

For now, there are 5 days including one weekend left in November - enjoy Greece's beautiful nature and send us your best pictures!

Η παρακολούθηση του αγώνα μεταξύ των τριών φωτογραφιών ήταν πραγματικό θρίλερ αντίστοιχο σε αγωνία με το πολιτικό θρίλερ της ανάδειξης πρωθυπουργού. Κάθεμια από τις τρεις φωτογραφίες είχε το προβάδισμα για τουλάχιστον δύο μέρες στην διάρκεια της εβδομάδας ψηφοφορίας και μόλις εχτές άρχισε να ξεχωρίζει ο νικήτής. Ηταν εντυπωσιακό να το παρακολουθείς & αποδεικνύει το πολύ ψηλό επίπεδο των φωτογραφιών που συμμετείχαν στον διαγωνισμό του Οκτωβρίου. Κάποιες ήταν καλές, κάποιες πολύ καλές & κάποιες απλά υπέροχες. Ενα μεγάλο ευχαριστώ & μπράβο σε όλους όσους συμμετείχαν!

Μια μικρή παρατήρηση για την συμμετοχή : Οπως προαναφέραμε σε παλιότερο άρθρο η συμμετοχή ήταν καλή, ωστόσο θέλουμε να δούμε και άλλο κόσμο να στέλνει φωτογραφίες. Οπότε αν ξέρετε κάποιον που έχει φωτογραφική μηχανή αλλά διστάζει να συμμετάσχει : Διαδώστε τον διαγωνισμό! Σημασία δεν έχει να κερίσεις, αλλά να συμμετάσχεις και να μάθεις περισσότερα για τα θαύματα της φύσης.

Η συνέχεια είναι μπροστά μας με τον Νοέμβριο και τον νέο διαγωνισμό!

It was quite a thriller to watch the "race" between the three photos above, with at least as much tension as in the recent political one for the precidency. Each of the three winning photos was for at least two days of this week ahead of the others, and it was only yesterday evening that it became clear who the winner will be. It was quite amazing to watch, and it is a clear statement about the quality of the photos that were submitted this month: some were good, some were very good, and some were simply awesome! A big thank you and bravo to all who have participated!

One short word to the participation: as we mentionned in the last post, the participation this month was very good, but we'd still like to see more people sending in photos. So if you know a person who has a camera but hesitates to participate: please do some advertising for the Photo of the Month! The important thing is not to win, but to participate and to learn about the wonders of nature.

And on we go... November is waiting for us!

Φωτογραφία του μήνα : Η ψηφοφορία για τον Οκτώβριο ξεκίνησε

Θέλουμε πάλι να ευχαριστήσουμε όλους όσους συμμετείχαν στο διαγωνισμό αυτού του μήνα! Παρ 'όλο που οι συμμετέχοντες αυξήθηκαν από 18 σε 20 σε σχέσι με τον προηγούμενο μήνα, ο αριθμός των φωτογραφιών αυξήθηκε ακόμα περισσότερο, από 58 σε 71. Αυτό πιθανώς να οφείλεται στην αυξημένη δραστηριότητα των υδρόβιων και τον πολύ καλό φθινοπωρινό καιρό, καταπληκτικό για φωτογραφία. Όπως & να έχει χαιρόμαστε ιδιαίτερα που έχουμε τόσες συμμετοχές.

Το όμορφο φθινοπωρινό φως ευνοεί την υψηλή ποιότητα των συμμετοχών και καθιστά εξαιρετικά δύσκολη την επιλογή μόνο 5 φωτογραφιών χωρίς να αδικηθούν άλλες.

Photo of the Month: Voting for October is now open

While the number of participants has gone up from 18 to 20 this month, the number of photos has gone up even more, from 58 to 71. Whether this is due to the increasing water bird activity or the relatively nice fall weather, we are very pleased to see so many submissions!!! And with the beautiful autumn light, the quality of the photos seems also to be increasing... which makes it increasingly difficult to choose among 5 photos only!

Σήμερα είναι η τελευταία μέρα για υποβολή φωτογραφιών για τον διαγωνισμό του Οκτωβρίου

Οσοι δεν υπέβαλλαν ακόμη τις φωτογραφίες τους για τον διαγωνισμό του Οκτωβρίου, σήμερα είναι η τελευταία ευκαιρία για να το κάνουν.

Με μεγάλη μας χαρά διαπιστώνουμε ότι οι φωτογραφίες που υποβλήθηκαν μέχρι τώρα υπερβαίνουν σε αριθμό αυτές του Σεπτεμβρίου, από την άλλη ωστόσο οι συμμετέχοντες έχουν μειωθεί κατά ένα σε σχέση με τον προηγούμενο μήνα.

(Οποιος ακόμη διστάζει, ας κάνει το βήμα & ας υποβάλλει τις φωτογραφίες του τώρα !)

Και κάτι ακόμα : Εάν γνωρίζετε το όνομα του είδους που φωτογραφίσατε τότε σας παρακαλώ να συμπεριλάβετε το όνομα του είδους στο όνομα του αρχείου (λατινικό, αγγλικό ή ελληνικό). Αυτό θα με γλυτώσει από χρόνο & από προσπάθειες αναγνώρισης... Ευχαριστώ.

Today last day for submitting October photos

For those who have not yet submitted their photos for the Photo of the Month of October, today is the last opportunity to do so. We are very pleased to see that the amount of photos submitted already well exceeds the ones of semptember, whereas the participants so far are one less than last month. (Hint: whoever still hesitates, please submit your photos now!)

One more thing: if you know the name of the species that you have photographed, please but its name into the file name (latin, english, or greek). This will save me time and some guessing... thanks.

Voting will start tomorrow, and will be announced here again together with the voting sheet.

5 days left to take October photos!

As usual, a short reminder that there are 5 days left, including this weekend, in order to take wildlife photos for the Photo of the Month of October. The weather is nice and sunny, the light is excellent for photography, and many animals are still active before the winter break. If you haven't been out yet this month for photo shooting, now is the time to go. If you want to participate in our monthly wildife competition, then please send us your photos until November 3rd at the latest.

Here are some of the most important rules:

- A maximum of 5 photos can be sumbitted per person per month.

- Photos should not exceed 1200 pixels width and 900 pixels hight.

- Please do not include any names or watermarks in the photos or the EXIF-data.
- The main subject of the photo should be wildlife (a non-domestic wild animal).
- Any wildlife (wild animal) is allowed, as long as it has been photographed within the borders of Greece.

- Pets and animals in captivity are not accepted.

- If you can, try to include the species name in the title of the photo.

This second edition of the PM-competition happened somewhat smoother than the first, in particular with the voting. We are happy to report that we didn't have to eliminate any biased votes this time, and that the overall participation, although slightly below the level of the first edition, was a very satisfying experience. Most of the photos were at the correct size, didn't have the owner's name in the EXIF data, and named the species in the title, which sort of facilitates my work. The quality of the photos remained very high, and viewing them was, and is, a pleasure, this month too.

Photo of the Month: September voting is now open


As usal, first a big "thank you" to all who have participated in this month' photo competition!
There were not quite as many participants as last month, but in the end we still got a very good number of 56 photos from 18 photographers. It's about a quarter less than the first edition, but this was somewhat expected with people having finished their holidays. Of course we hope to pass the 100-photos-per-month barrier until the end of the year... so keep on shooting people!

The voting sheet is now available here below: please remember to vote for the best photos instead of for your best friends...!

Voting is allowed for all members of the EOE (HOS), the Greek Nature Photography Forum, or for people who have participated in at least one Photo of the Month competition (can be the current one).
